Then I also have to phone Ti Diam's which I haven't done yet !

Hypo and hyper

World Diabetes Day is approaching and I am getting ready for my project!
It's a fairly simple one.Now , my first task is to get in touch with the Ti Diams association.

What's Ti Diams' ?

It's an association( I would rather say community) where children with Type 1 diabetes get support for their additional needs because of their diabetes.

hile reading their blog, I discovered that there were two conditions that can happen to you.

1. HYPOGLYCEMIA
a condition that occurs when your blood sugar (glucose) is too low.
Blood sugar below 70 mg/dL is considered low. Blood sugar at or below this level can harm you.
This can happen to anyone in general  since it occurs when :
  • Your body's sugar (glucose) is used up too quickly
  • Glucose is released into the bloodstream too slowly
  • Too much insulin is released into the bloodstream
    2. Hyperglycemia
high blood glucose which is the condition that rises the most complications
This can happen due to :
    • If you have type 1, you may not have given yourself enough insulin.
    • If you have type 2, your body may have enough insulin, but it is not as effective as it should be.
    • You ate more than planned or exercised less than planned.
    • You have stress from an illness, such as a cold or flu.
    • You have other stress, such as family conflicts or school or dating problems.

I especially find the last one interesting.

The more I blog, the more I realise that there are extremely good sites on diabetes and I hope that  by writing this blog.Even if the amount of detail isn't that great, the sources which I am displaying will give you a better idea of what diabetes is.

Sergey Ermakov

Sergey Ermakov has TYPE 1 DIABETES

As a result, his vision is blurred. This can result in blurring of vision which comes and goes over the day, depending on your blood sugar levels.

Despite that, he doesn't think that it affects his vision!
here is his evidence to justify his belief

that's him with a model
The dress looks very detailed

Reviving my sweet blog !

Hello there friends !
Yes I know I wasn't able to keep up with the blog, but hey ! we're all human after  all !
I am now in my last year of IB and the level has stepped up ( what did I expect ? ).

I interestingly did my TOK presentation on "How can we determine whether coke is good or bad for our health ?". Despite not doing as well as I had expected, I amazingly enjoyed making the presentation and I think that the experience of making it was what I respected more than the grades.
Word of experience to students : Tok presentation will be one of the most challenging task which you will encounter throughout your diploma.

Getting back to diabetes, while doing my Tok presentation,I cam across a speech of Th Prime Minister of MAURITIUS in 2008 who organized a seminar for cardiovascular diseases and he had stated that,Young Mauritians (such as myself) are catching more and more preventable diseases ( obesity, type 1 diabetes ) due to the rich nutrition which is now accessible to us.

Here are some of the Mauritian foods which I think might cause diabetes.

gateau coco ( coconut cake )

ladoo

 Rasgulla

Napolitain

 pancake

As you can see, Mauritian food is heavily influenced on other cultures.
